Our Story
The Journey of Mami's Munchies
Mami's Munchies began with a simple but powerful dream: to share the joy of authentic West African puff puff with the world.
We are a group of siblings raised on the smell of frying puff puff and the sound of our mother hustling in the kitchen.
Mami started selling at just 15 years old in the bustling markets of Adjamé, Côte d’Ivoire. After immigrating to the U.S. in search of opportunity, she brought her love for West African food with her—and never stopped working.
For over 25 years, she sold puff puff and other beloved snacks right here in Harlem, on 116th Street and 8th Avenue. Working out of our small home kitchen, she turned simple ingredients into something truly delicious. We grew up by her side—helping her mix, fry, and bag puff puff, sometimes even in our school uniforms.
Now, we’ve come together to continue what she started. Each of us bringing something unique to the table:
• Aicha is a Cornell graduate who brings sharp insight, creativity, and a deep connection to Mommy’s original recipes.
• Kaladji, a psychology major turned teacher, leads with heart and a commitment to community.
• Ibrahim is a college student studying business, always full of new ideas and driven by an entrepreneurial spirit.
• Aboubacar, the youngest, is still in high school—learning the ropes hands-on and reminding us why this work matters.
Together, we’re building something rooted in our history and full of love. What we’re building is more than a business—it’s a continuation of everything our mom started.
